The Reverend Christopher Smith

Hey! I’m Pastor Chris Smith. I was born and raised in the Hermitage area of Nashville, Tennessee. My spouse Becky and I love going on adventures. Whether it’s exploring a new city, finding a new trail to hike, or cooking a new dish together, we love to discover the wonders of God’s creation, though we also love spending time on the couch with our two dogs Peach and Gizmo.

I’m an avid tennis fan, I enjoy playing board games, and you will rarely find me without a guitar nearby. I hold a B.S. in International Relations from Middle Tennessee State University, a Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and a Certificate of Advanced Theological Studies from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary.

This call to ministry has taken me from congregations, camps, and retreats all around the country. I’ve served in congregations in the San Francisco Bay, the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, the streets of Midtown, Atlanta, by the rivers of Chattanooga, and now the beautiful Bellevue community where I serve as Pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Gathering for worship and sharing life together are central to our lives of faith. My passions for ministry involve seeking new ways to be the Church in the world, translating and sharing the grace and love of God as we experience it.  I find great joy in working with others to unlock our creative side. Through teaching, preaching, and facilitating discussion, I hope to cultivate growth in understanding of the Word and growth in love for Jesus and each other.

I believe God’s activity in the world is directed toward the transformation of the whole of creation: moving from destructive to creative, from outcast to inclusion, from fear to hope, from death to life. My call to ministry, and I believe all of Christ’s disciples, is to participate in God's realm as it breaks into this world. I always look forward to seeing what God is up to in our lives and world!

David Dorn:

Minister for Music

David is a passionate and versatile pianist who has played piano since the age of 6. He grew up in South Carolina playing in churches starting at the age of 8 and studied classical piano for over 20 years. He was accepted into the prestigious South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts where he studied piano with some of the top classical pianist in the world.

After graduating from the Governor's School, he was accepted to Erskine College where he received a full scholarship to study piano. He studied at Erskine for two years before deciding to transfer to Belmont University. He quickly recognized that being in Nashville would provide more opportunities as a musician and Belmont had a great reputation for its music department. Shortly after moving, David was appointed as  the music director at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where he still serves today. After graduating, David built his own studio off of music row where he produces  demos for many songwriters and independent artists. He is presently playing sessions for many of the top songwriters in Nashville. When not in the studio or out on the road, David enjoys writing and hanging out with his talented wife as well as hiking and drinking a good cup of joe with friends.
